Let’s rethink your landscaping business
Business owners who are interested in hiring me typically don’t fail because their work isn’t good enough — it nearly always is. No, they struggle because:
-
Lack of Clear Vision: A company of like-minded and informed people on a mission will outperform one filled with people who are simply doing their job every day of the week. Most owners have a sense of clarity but have no idea how to share and use this most important tool like they do a shovel to dig a hole.
- Missing People Systems: Understanding the roles, accountabilities, and structure that is needed to fill every seat on the bus with the right person is vital. Building on a cycle of leadership development ensures the future will be in good hands as you scale your business and can’t do it all yourself.
- Poor Financial Literacy: Understand and teach yourself and your employees about the numbers in a way that shows the direct relation between day-to-day actions and the outcome for every stakeholder. Learn how to build on a meaningful reward system that considers the health of the company first.
- Generic Positioning: Are you interchangeable? Your employees and clients should be nervous thinking they might not have the opportunity to work with your company. Premium positioning sets the stage for charging a premium price. This, in turn, should bring higher profits. You can turn those profits into great things: paying your employees higher wages, sharing profit, maintaining equipment, spending your winters in Mexico! Do you get my point?
-
No Succession Plan: Most business owners don’t truly know how to build lasting company value. Or they can’t see value without themselves embedded in the company. How do you get the most from your company’s value when it’s time to transition to a third party or your employees?
I don’t help you do better work. I help you create an organization that can do better work in a sustainable, scalable manner.

This is a fully guided coaching service designed to help your team not only learn all the aspects of running a business in the following key areas but also to apply your learnings into the day to day.
Deliverable: 5 stages from start to finish
Stage 1. Full Business Audit
- Overview
- Financial Audit
- Cultural Audit
- Self Evaluation Worksheet
- Customer Experience
- Key Business Metrics Worksheet
- Results Workshop
Stage 2. Leadership Alignment
A descriptive and shareable story of what success looks like at a particular future point in time—described with enough richness of detail that you’ll know when you’ve arrived—that is both inspiring and strategically sound.
- Reveal Your Purpose
- Define Your Core Values
- Write Your Vision
Stage 3. People Systems
Clarity and agreement on positions and what defines a winning employee and customer experience. NO MORE finger pointing! Lower employee turnover and increased client lifetime value.
- Roles and Accountabilities
- Employee Journey
- Customer Journey
- Huddling
Stage 4. Open Book Finance
Building knowledge on, sharing accountability of, communicating about and planning for what is collectively agreed upon as a win is what Open Book is all about. When people have a deep understanding of the problem at hand, the way in which they can personally and collectively affect as well as share in the outcome they will rise to the occasion. Why? Because at their core people like to win and be a part of something larger than themselves. At the heart of the language of business are the financials. They tell stories about the actions of the people who create them. We need to speak the same language in order to understand what is being said.
- Budgeting
- Critical Focus
- Know and Teach the Rules
- Business Literacy Training
- Profit Gain Sharing (Bonus)
- Contingency Planning
Stage 5. Launch & Operate
You can expect me to in effect join your team as a sort of “special ops” player. My role is not to help you dig holes or choose a new piece of machinery. I want to see the clients I work with win so that we can all be proud of the accomplishment.
I will partner with you and your team to improve culture, have fun, reduce turnover, educate and empower employees, give your employees a purpose, improve morale and motivation, and increase employee performance to impact your organization’s bottom line and profit.
Cost & Time
Duration: From commencement to completion, expect this to span 6 months.
Cost: $29,000 – $42,000 fee. Plus any applicable taxes.
Payment Terms: Prepaid and non-refundable, 50% upon acceptance and 50% prior to commencement.
If you’re ready to book time with me to work through your particular challenges, I
have two options available:
5 hours – $2,500
10 hours – $4,000
You might be looking at this as a hefty “soft cost” in your budget.
But compare it to the value you bring to a potential client – either before the first landscape designs are put to paper or midway through the design stage – for a multimillion dollar property. One or two great ideas from you could increase a client’s entire property value well beyond the cost of the fee you would charge.
An investment in my time has the potential to strengthen and energize your resolve to take action, add or modify a system of operation or raise awareness of a key employee you should fire…or fight to retain.
Too often we landscapers think the only way to make money is by putting a shovel in the ground. In reality, simply making better business decisions has a much bigger impact on your short and long term success.
